The Genres of Rock Rock music has always had a plethora of influences ad styles that people have played and listened to over the long and distinguished history of music. With beginnings in rock and roll and genres ranging rom hard rock, to heavy metal, from alternative rock, to glam rock and hair metal to the more recent grunge rock and emo and hardcore punk rock movements, rock music has seen the evolution of styles like no other genre. Hard rock music was invented by the now legendary Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath in the 60s and 70s, with some musical difference but the same roots in blues like the Beatles and Elvis Presley. The baton was then passed on to bands like AC DC, Aerosmith, Van Halen and the likes to diversify it into various other styles. Notable here is the contribution of bands like The Doors and Pink Floyd who brought a psychedelic element to the sound and evolved in to something that is now known as progressive rock. In the last twenty years, rock music has evolved from the sexy hard rock of Guns ‘n’ Roses to the shabby disoriented sound of Nirvana, and the more ambient and atmospheric albums of Radiohead. The rise of the music labels, in recent years, though, has left a lot of people with a bad taste in the mouth regarding the creativity of the bands, and the rise of the under ground music movement has led to the birth of another genre of rock. Independent bands play and perform their own music, and hence the name Indie rock has come to signify a separate movement in our favorite kind of music. |
